Sustainable Water and Sanitation in Africa (SUWASA) is a six year regional initiative launched in September 2009 and financed by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Tetra Tech (a company based in the USA) from the regional office in Nairobi, Kenya. In Bauchi state, SUWASA is implementing a three year reform programme that targets to support to deliver water and sanitation services to one mi lion people living in urban, pen urban and unplanned settlements with little or no access to safe, affordable, reliable and sustainable water and sanitation services. The projects focus is to address the wide range of challenges which prevent the Bauchi State Water Board (BSWB) from providing improved water and sanitation services to its population.
