Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme (NSRP) wishes to invite interested and suitably qualified civil society organizations (CSOs) to submit concept notes for the NSRP Small Grants. NSRP is an initiative of the UK Department for International Development (DFID) aimed at supporting the efforts of Nigerian institutions and actors to manage conflicts better so that there is a reduction in incidence and negative impact of violence. It is managed by British Council, International Alert and Social Development Direct.

Focus and Target Areas
NSRP will principally support interventions aimed at promoting appropriate responses to violent conflict and reconciliation. Interventions will specifically: (a) make existing conflict preventions and management mechanisms more coordinated, inclusive and accountable thereby increasing public trust in their fairness and efficacy; (b) address some key drivers of conflict particularly economic grievances relating to employment and land and water use; (c) tackle obstacles to women’s involvement in the prevention and resolution of conflicts as well as violence against women and girls; (d) influence key decision makers and opinion-formers to have a positive influence on stability and reconciliation.
  • The programme will work at the federal level4 in S states that currently experience high levels of violence and, within these states, some of the local government areas (IGAs) worse affected by violence conflict,
  • The present call for concept notes is for initiatives in four of NSRP target states Kaduna, Kano, Plateau and Rivers States’; and focuses on three programme areas:
  • Security and Governance - Support CSCIs managing conflict resolution and peace building initiatives;
  • Economics and Natural Resources — Support CSOs working to address some key drivers of violence, such as grievance arising from unemployment and inequitable access to land and water:
  • Women and Girls Support CSOs managing initiatives to tackle violence against women and girls, and promote women political and economic empowerment

Duration and Dates of Application
NSRP Small Grants will be awarded on a semiannual basis. The tenure of initiatives supported by the grants will typically be 3 to 12 months. Concept notes can be submitted anytime of the year but will be reviewed by NSRP in February and August.
Concept notes received by February 1, 2014 will be considered in February and those received by Aug 1, 2014 will be considered in August

Please note:
  • Only short listed organizations will be contacted for capacity assessments.
  • Final selection will be made by the NSRP Grants Selection Committee based on reports of the capacity assessment of shortlisted CSOs.
