The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (lSGlobal, Spain), hereby welcomes interest from Health Organizations in Nigeria .

The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (lSGlobal, Spain) is selecting local counterparts in Nigeria to conduct household surveys in the framework of a project (TIPTOP) aimed to reduce malaria in pregnancy and generate new evidence. Nigerian organizations with a track record in providing these services (e.g. academia and research institutions, think tanks, private sector) are welcome to apply by submitting letters of interest by close of play 30th July 2017.

Background
Intermittent preventive treatment of malaria in pregnancy (IPTp) with sulphadoxinepyramethamine (SP) is the cornerstone of malaria prevention during pregnancy in sub-Saharan Africa. However, the percentage of pregnant women having access to lPTp with quality assured SP is still too low, which leaves 15 million women unprotected from malaria.
From July 2017, a consortium led by JHPIEGO and supported by a grant from UNITAID is implementing a 5-year project in the Nigerian states of Ebonyi, Niger and Ondo, and three other African countries, called "Transforming Intermittent Prevention Treatment for Optimal Pregnancy (TIPTOP)"The project aims to contribute to the reduction of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality by improving access to intermittent preventive treatment of malaria in pregnancy through community- based distribution of quality assured SR An independent impact evaluation of this innovative strategy is of capital importance to guide its implementation in other African countries. ISGlobal is the consortium member responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of the project, and specifically for evaluating the impact of the project on the uptake of IPTp with SP by pregnant women.
Scope of work and responsibilities of the applicant
The purpose of this call is to identify and select local institutions in Nigeria with experience in carrying out household surveys (HHS), including data collection and processing, with high scientific rigour and reliability, to collect pregnancy history of women of childbearing age in the project sites in Nigeria, The survey is meant to determine the proportion of women having delivered in the preceding 12 months that received three or more, two or more or one or more doses of SP during their pregnancy (disaggregated by source of treatment, age and distance from a health centre), as well as the proportion of women of childbearing age who know the community-based lPTp programme (CIPTp), While the project is to be implemented in the three above-mentioned States, the evaluation through HHS is meant to be carried out in selected LGAs in Ebonyi and Ondo States.

The responsibilities of the applicant will include
• Obtaining ethical approval from the relevant country and institutional ethical review boards
• Conducting the surveys covering a random sample of at least 2,200 households in the health areas where the intervention will take place.
• Specific activities will include supporting lSGlobal in writing a detailed field operations and data processing manual, pilot testing the survey instruments, applying cleaning procedures, the recruitment and training of the field teams, mobilizing the community, collecting survey data, performing regular field supervisions and providing monthly progress reports (technical and financial) to lSGlobal.

Expected results
The data, recorded on electronic devices, for all the individuals and households interviewed
A narrative report including a statistics summary and a detailed description of the data c,llection process, highlighting problems encountered and corrective actions taken.

Required Expertise
Applying institutions are expected to provide evidence of successfully completing in previous work the following activities:
Conducting large scale community-based surveys, especially of pregnancy history of women of child bearing age
Developing detailed standard field operations manuals for both supervisors and field workers
Probability sampling
Recruiting and training of field workers
Timely delivery of expected outputs
Use of electronic systems (as personal digital assistants (PDAs), tablets or smartphones) for household-based data collection
In addition, applicants should have experienced field supervisors and team leaders that can deliver high-quality data. Past work should be known to this project's partners.

Timing of the assignment

The baseline survey is expected to be carried out in the first quarter of 2018 and a cleaned database and report submitted to ISGIobal two months after the end of the survey. Two similar surveys in the same areas will be conducted at midline and at end line (12 and approximately 36 months after baseline survey, respectively).
Frequent support to lSGlobal Data Manager Team should go beyond this date until a cleaned database is finalized.

Procedure for submission of LOTs

Annexes to be included are: a letter of intention from the Director of the institution, the full list of surveys and reports written in the last five years, a list of the key personnel of the institution with their qualifications and a description of the institutional expertise with regard to data and financial management. Preselected institutions will be invited to submit full proposals in Line with the survey protocol that they will receive from lSGlobal.
