Title: Request for Quotation (RFQ) for Consultancy on GBV Training
Preamble
One of the major feedbacks we received from our monthly safeguarding awareness in the communities we work in is the high rate of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), rape and pedophile practices, and domestic violence. A female VSLA member from Gamawa LGA told our focal point that“GBV and domestic violence is part of their culture, women are not allowed to report to the police and have to keep it as a family secret”. We believe this is caused by a general lack of awareness and inadequate reporting mechanisms.Gender-based violence (GBV), which is the umbrella term for any act that is perpetrated against a person’s will and is based on socially ascribed differences between men and women, is driven by structural inequalities and unequal power relations that render women subordinate to men,due to limited access to education, employment, finances, and healthcare.
Most of these vices are ignorantly shielded by structures that should be speaking against them.As an organization that understands the interaction between gender, power, and justice, we cannot shy away from the negative impact of gender-based violence, hence the need to raise awareness on the negative impact of GBV and Domestic Violence.
